COURSE OVERVIEW
Ensure worker safety when using ladders in the workplace
This Ladder Safety Training provides employees with the ability to practice ladder safety in a hazard-free virtual environment. Trainees will receive a non-trade-oriented task, such as hanging a sign or changing a light bulb, and proceed to evaluate the work area for potential hazards, determine the type of ladder needed, do a ladder inspection, and proceed to perform the task. The training assesses employees on their placement, and avoiding OSHA ladder hazards, such as reaching or leaning.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Participants will learn how to
- Survey and Isolate the Work Area: Inspect the immediate floor space and overhead structures for hazards like slick surfaces, clutter, or live electrical wires.
- Select the Exact Equipment: Analyze the task requirements to choose a ladder with the correct height, weight capacity, and material (such as non-conductive fiberglass when working near electricity).
- Perform a Pre-Use Inspection: Run a detailed physical audit of the ladder, checking for cracked rungs, loose rivets, warped rails, or missing safety labels.
- Master Safe Setup and Angles: Deploy the ladder on a stable, level surface, ensuring proper extension and securing appropriate pitch angles.
- Maintain Flawless Climbing Mechanics: Execute the 3-point contact rule, keep the body centered between the side rails, and recognize exactly where to stop climbing to avoid tipping
