Prepare energy and utility inspectors to safely perform pipeline inspection
This pipeline safety training and exam require inspectors to perform pipeline patrolling activities on a pipeline right-of-way, including a pipe section that is suspended on a bridge. Pipeline inspectors are required to recognize and react to any Abnormal Operating Conditions (AOC’s) that could threaten the integrity and safety of the pipeline. Upon completion of the patrolling inspection exam, inspectors must properly document and report their findings to achieve certification.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Participants will learn how to
- Execute Right-of-Way Line Patrols: Conduct systematic above-ground and below-ground clearing sweeps according to strict federal and utility inspection standards.
- Identify Complex AOCs: Spot subtle and overt Abnormal Operating Conditions, including soil erosion, pipeline exposure, encroaching heavy machinery, or structural stress on bridge hangars.
- Audit Right-of-Way Signage: Detect broken, obstructed, or outdated pipeline markers, missing warning decals, and incorrect emergency contact signage.
- Command Corrective Responses: Determine the correct immediate field action—such as initiating emergency shutdowns or marking zones for excavation crews—based on the severity of the threat.
- Perform Compliance Reporting: Draft field observations, input spatial coordinates of defects, and file legal documentation with centralized dispatch
