COURSE OVERVIEW
Run an aerial drop cable from a telephone pole and perform a Pole Top Rescue!
The user will use a hands-on approach to reviewing and demonstrating their knowledge. The user will have to prepare the worksite, perform a Pole Top Rescue, contact emergency services, and properly follow up after the rescue is complete. This will be a pass-fail course; if users make mistakes during the evaluation, they will be provided the opportunity to correct their errors and continue with the evaluation; however, mistakes will be tracked, and making enough errors along the way will cause the user to fail.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Participants will learn how to
- Set Up a Secure Worksite: Execute comprehensive pre-climb safety audits, establish visible ground-level traffic control zones, and identify overhead high-voltage lines.
- Audit High-Altitude PPE: Inspect critical climbing assemblies, including full-body harnesses, climbing belts, secondary lanyards, and insulated rescue ropes for defects.
- Execute an Emergency Ascent: Safely and rapidly climb the utility pole under emergency conditions without bypassing mandatory fall-protection anchors.
- Master Pole-Top Rigging: Securely loop and tie specialized rescue lines around an unconscious victim, balancing their weight before cutting their primary work lanyards.
- Manage a Controlled Descent: Carefully lower the victim to the ground, actively steering them clear of cross-arms, guy wires, and structural obstructions.
- Deliver Post-Rescue Life Support: Coordinate immediate emergency medical services (EMS) dispatch and administer stabilizing first aid or CPR on the ground.
